Missed Calls is about a boy estranged from his family finding hope when a bright friend chaps his door.
The main inspiration for this film was the theme of “Bright”. My emotional reaction to “Bright” was to craft a story about finding hope. For this, I drew on personal experience to craft a very personal story. Visually, I immediately knew I wanted to emphasise bright and sunny scenes by contrasting them with dark and glum scenes.
I was lucky enough to have a couple friends willing to take part in the acting. My greatest strength as a film maker is in the writing. I would normally prefer to work in a much more collaborative environment, bringing in friends who are skilled in cinematography, video editing, and any other available skill sets. Not only does this allow me to focus on the screenplay, but it brings a more dynamic range of thoughts and ideas. However, as this project is a part of an academic application, I elected to do all film making roles myself, with the help of a couple actors.
